Charlotte Salt
Based in North Yorkshire, Charlotte Salt is a British ceramicist creating one of a kind sculptural works that bring joy to each room they belong in. Her artistic journey is rooted in a familial story of ceramics — her parents established their own pottery studio before she was born, fostering what would become her lifelong relationship with the medium. With a background in Contemporary Fine Art and qualifications as an art teacher, her work is informed by a deep appreciation of craft.
Working intuitively with stoneware, Salt creates pieces that bridge notions of the contemporary and the ancient. Her distinctive technique encompasses traditional coiling, slab-building, modelling and pinching, resulting in works that carry both physical and metaphorical imprints of their making process. Her work carries all the character from their creation process, continuing a long legacy of British craft tradition whilst allowing originality to shine through, making each piece truly unique.
Her collections span functional and decorative pieces, from painterly stoneware plates to hand-built sculptures. Her work is characterised by muted yet playful palettes, with each piece embodying a delicate balance between whimsy and earthiness. Drawing inspiration from intricate tapestries, ancient artworks, myths and folklore, her creations are timeless, working beautifully in any space, from the grandness of galleries to the small intimacy of homes.
