Hopewood Baskets
Hopewood Baskets craft stunning sculptural vessels that enrich living spaces and routines, bringing nature into the modern home. Founded by Sarah Loughlin and Marcus Wootton, this Worcestershire-based studio create their intricate baskets from British willow, honouring time-old practices of weaving.
The name Hopewood pays tribute to the natural materials they use within their work, and celebrates the hopeful experience of making. Their commitment to sustainability manifests through every moment in the process, working exclusively with natural materials to create pieces truly made to last. The willow used in their work is of basketry grade, cultivated in their own beds in Worcestershire and supplemented by Somerset-sourced willow for beautiful variations in colour and shape.
The nature of their materials creates a seasonality in their production, making each year’s collection feel like a new discovery in their beautiful variations of colour and form. So much time is poured into each basket — the beautiful and refined resulting forms are a meeting of their ongoing individual explorations into the art of weaving.
With a background in Fine Art, Sarah has a City and Guilds in Basketry and has studied under master basketmakers, including Jenny Crisp, to continue a legacy of this British craft. Previously working in Antiques, Marcus’ background lies in restoration, a lifelong love of uncovering how beautiful objects are made. Together, Hopewood demonstrates a shared intimate understanding of their material, with each piece celebrating the natural beauty and versatility of handwoven British willow.
