Sophie Wake
Sophie Wake is an award-winning contemporary British artist creating and painting in South West Devon. Her beautifully expressive work emerges from a spiritual practice that lives in tandem with her creativity, translating into pieces that connect to the earthly and ethereal.
After graduating from Brighton University with a BA in Graphic Design/Illustration, Sophie's artistic journey flourished from 20 years of freelance illustration into a deeply personal fine-art practice. Now, in her Devon studio, her work flows between spirituality and artistic expression. Her daily rituals of meditation, somatic practices and tea ceremonies infuse her creative process alongside inspiration from shamanism, rock art, and ancient pottery.
Her beautiful works have earned her international recognition, including being selected by Grayson Perry for the Royal Academy’s 250th Summer Exhibition, and winning several Brighton Artists Open House awards.
Whether working with oil on canvas or gouache on paper, Sophie's approach is beautifully intuitive, each piece flowing naturally from moments of deep self-enquiry and somatic awareness. Her works radiate an authenticity that brings joy and depth to the human experience, translating a sense of liminality and the in-between in her beautifully organic forms. Through this tender and intimate style, Sophie creates pieces that pulse with life and raw emotion, infusing everyday lived moments with pure magic.
