PATRICIA OβMAILLE
Patricia O'Maille (b. 1958) is an American artist living and working between Baltimore, Maryland and Bridgton, Maine. Working primarily with ink and watercolour on Japanese and other carefully selected papers, her practice is intuitive and unedited, allowing stories to emerge naturally through the act of making. Some are rooted in autobiography, while others draw on imagined histories and the lives of people she envisions inhabiting them.Early American folk and naΓ―ve art has long been central to OβMailles practice, particularly works created by women to record everyday life, personal histories and significant moments. Their directness, symbolism and storytelling continue to inform her distinctive visual language, where memory, place and imagination intertwine.
OβMaille is the recipient of fellowships from Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York, and the Klots Fellowship in Rochefort-en-Terre, France. Her work has been exhibited widely across the United States, including solo exhibitions at The Noyes Museum, New Jersey, and E3 Gallery, New York. More recent presentations include the Outsider Art Fair, New York, and Art Cake, Brooklyn, with additional group exhibitions in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Nantucket and France.
