An English Vision: Traditional Architecture & Decoration for Today by Ben Pentreath

£45.00

Pentreath is celebrated as one of the foremost designers of new traditional buildings and country houses worldwide. This book, marking the twentieth anniversary of his London-based firm, showcases his distinctive blend of classical design with a playful twist. It offers the first comprehensive look at his work, including his internationally acclaimed personal residences in Dorset, London, and Scotland, as well as a wide variety of houses and larger town-scale projects that set his practice apart in the traditional design world.

The book explores the full range of his output, from vibrant English country cottages to grand traditional homes. Despite the diversity in style, common principles—scale, proportion, craftsmanship, detail, sustainability, and appropriateness—unite his designs.

Pentreath has written and photographed this book himself, presenting around thirty case studies, many previously unpublished. These designs demonstrate a deep understanding of materials, texture, classical and vernacular details, colour, and simplicity, evident in both opulent interiors and practical town plans. Rooted in classical tradition, Pentreath’s work appeals to a global audience, reflected in his widespread media coverage. This book is a testament to his unique vision and his ability to blend timeless elegance with modern relevance.
