Hand-Built Rounded Ceramic Vessel by John Ward
A hand-built stoneware vessel by British potter John Ward, distinguished by its rounded body and upright, narrow neck. The softly mottled surface, in earthy neutral tones, is characteristic of Ward’s restrained palette and refined approach to form.
Constructed using the coil-building method, the vessel embodies Ward’s focus on balance, proportion, and the sculptural qualities of clay. The clean lines and gentle volume demonstrate his ability to create visual stillness through material and shape.
John Ward (b. 1938, London) studied under Lucie Rie and Hans Coper at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts before relocating to rural Wales in 1978. A leading figure in British studio pottery, he exhibited widely and is represented in major public and private collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum. Ward retired from making in 2017 due to health reasons, but his work continues to be exhibited and celebrated internationally.
