Handbuilt Sgraffito Terracotta Vase by 1690

£750.00

A handbuilt terracotta vase with applied lug handles, decorated in white slip and sgraffito. The surface depicts figures derived from a block-printed counterpane from Charleston House, including dancing figures, sacred cows, horseback riders, hunting dogs and peacocks arranged within a continuous narrative composition. The imagery draws on the visual language of early nineteenth-century Mughal painting, combining decorative pattern with figurative storytelling. The vase balances folk tradition, Bloomsbury influence and painterly abstraction within a contemporary ceramic form. The work forms part of a wider collection created exclusively for Arte House, which also includes a corresponding lamp and charger. Origin: British Period/Style: Contemporary Ceramics Material: Glazed terracotta Dimensions: 24.5cm height × 15cm diameter (19cm including lug handles)
