Little Ceramic Dotty Face Tile by Charlotte Salt
A hand-built decorative stoneware tile by Yorkshire-based ceramicist. Charlotte Salt’s Face Plates radiate a celestial presence, their symbolic forms reminiscent of sun and moon deities. Their layered surfaces and expressive details evoke mythology and mysticism. Drawing inspiration from William Blake’s imagery, John Milton’s poetry, Picasso’s ceramics, and early tapestries, Charlotte weaves historical and artistic influences into her work. These references shape her distinctive visual language, rich with texture and symbolism.
Based in North Yorkshire, Charlotte works from both her home studio and the AHH Studio Collective. Growing up in her parents' pottery studio, she developed an intuitive connection to clay, a material she has explored throughout her life.
Using traditional techniques such as coiling, slab-building, modelling, and pinching, she crafts unique pieces that embrace imperfection and spontaneity. Every brushstroke, imprint, and surface texture remains intentionally visible, preserving the rhythm of the making process—a raw and tactile reflection of history, craft, and expression.
