A founding member of the Bloomsbury Group, Vanessa Bell (1879–1961) was a central figure in the development of modern art in Britain. Born in London, she trained at the Royal Academy Schools under John Singer Sargent and later at the Slade School of Fine Art. Throughout her career, Bell returned to domestic interiors and garden settings, particularly those at Charleston, using them as a sustained source for exploration. Influenced by Post-Impressionism, her work often employs simplified forms, curved silhouettes and a vibrant yet controlled palette.
Bell’s work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions and is held in major public collections, including Tate, the Courtauld and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
