Star Sign by Tabby Booth (Commission)
Tabby Booth is an artist based in Cornwall whose work draws on folklore, coastal mythology, and decorative folk art traditions. A graduate of Central Saint Martins and co-founder of Sailors Jail Gallery in Falmouth, she works in a distinctive sgraffito technique, carving into layers of waxed acrylic to reveal textured forms and contrasting detail.
Each piece in the Star Sign series is made to order and individually framed using an antique wooden frame sourced specifically for the commission. Booth’s zodiac-inspired compositions combine the linear qualities of scrimshaw with the simplicity of naïve painting. Her practice explores themes of symbolism and storytelling through a personal and tactile approach.
