David Austen (b. 1960, Harlow) studied at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London. He has received significant commissions in London and Cairo, and curated exhibitions such as Exodus at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge.
Austen’s paintings, drawings, films, and text works have been widely exhibited in the UK and internationally. Notable exhibitions include Take It From Here at Sunderland Museum and Art Gallery and About Vision: New British Painting in the 1990s at the Museum of Modern Art Oxford. A major solo exhibition of his work was presented at Milton Keynes Gallery in 2007. He is represented by Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh, and has recently exhibited at Art Basel Miami and Art Basel Hong Kong (2025).
